UNESCO Chair “Creative Cities in Motion: Urban Sustainable Mobility and Utilization of Cultural Resources”

Τον Οκτώβριο του 2022 απονεμήθηκε η Έδρα UNESCO «Creative Cities in Motion: Urban Sustainable Mobility and Utilization of Cultural Resources» στο Εργαστήριο «Ψηφιακός Πολιτισμός, Έξυπνες Πόλεις, Διαδίκτυο των Πραγμάτων (ΙοΤ) και Προηγμένες Ψηφιακές Τεχνολογίες και Υπηρεσίες» του Πανεπιστημίου Πειραιά που είναι άμεσα συνδεδεμένο με το Πρόγραμμα Μεταπτυχιακών Σπουδών (Π.Μ.Σ.) «Ψηφιακός Πολιτισμός, Έξυπνες Πόλεις, ΙοΤ και Προηγμένες Ψηφιακές Τεχνολογίες», με επικεφαλής (Chairholder) της Έδρας τον Καθηγητή του Πανεπιστημίου Πειραιώς και Διευθυντή του Εργαστηρίου και του Π.Μ.Σ. Δημήτριο Δ.  Βέργαδο.

Πρόκειται για μια διάκριση υψηλού συμβολισμού και σημασίας, καθώς αναδεικνύεται η ποιότητα του ερευνητικού έργου του Εργαστηρίου μας και ενισχύεται η εξωστρέφεια τόσο του Εργαστηρίου, όσο και του Πανεπιστημίου Πειραιώς συνολικά, αναβαθμίζοντας τη θέση τους στον παγκόσμιο ακαδημαϊκό χάρτη.

Επιπλέον, η Έδρα UNESCO πρόκειται να αποτελέσει κέντρο δράσεων στα πεδία της έρευνας και της καινοτομίας, ενώ η στενή συνεργασία με την UNESCO, την Ελληνική Εθνική Επιτροπή για την UNESCO, άλλες Έδρες της UNESCO, και άλλους εθνικούς και διεθνείς φορείς για σχετικά προγράμματα και δραστηριότητες θα συμβάλλει στη δημιουργία ενός επιστημονικού κέντρου αριστείας και καινοτομίας.

Σκοπός της εν λόγω Πανεπιστημιακής Έδρας UNESCO είναι να συμβάλλει εκπαιδευτικά και συμβουλευτικά, στην προώθηση της ανάπτυξης βιώσιμων αστικών δημιουργικών πόλεων, μέσω της χρήσης νέων τεχνολογιών και υπηρεσιών, καινοτόμων και κλιματικά ουδέτερων οικοσυστημάτων, στην ενίσχυση της δημιουργικής βιομηχανίας και των προηγμένων ψηφιακών δεξιοτήτων, στην προώθηση της διατήρησης και ανάδειξης της πολιτιστικής κληρονομιάς, του περιαστικού περιβάλλοντος και της αναζωογόνησης της πολιτιστικής ζωής της πόλης, καθώς και της προστασίας του πολιτιστικού τοπίου και στην ευαισθητοποίηση του κοινού σχετικά με τις έξυπνες/ψηφιακές βιώσιμες, ανθεκτικές και χωρίς αποκλεισμούς πόλεις και οικισμούς, αλλά και τη βιώσιμη αστική κινητικότητα.

In October 2022, the UNESCO Chair “Creative Cities in Motion: Urban Sustainable Mobility and Utilization of Cultural Resources” was awarded to the Laboratory “Digital Culture, Smart Cities, Internet of Things (IoT) and Advanced Digital Technologies and Services” of the University of Piraeus, which is directly linked to the Postgraduate Program (M.Sc.) “Digital Culture, Smart Cities, IoT and Advanced Digital Technologies”, with the Chairholder being Professor of the University of Piraeus and Director of the Laboratory and the M.Sc. Dimitrios D. Vergados.

This is a distinction of high symbolism and importance, as it highlights the quality of our Laboratory’s research work and enhances the extroversion of both the Laboratory and the University of Piraeus as a whole, upgrading their position on the global academic map.

Furthermore, the UNESCO Chair is set to become a center of actions in the fields of research and innovation, while close collaboration with UNESCO, the Greek National Commission for UNESCO, other UNESCO Chairs, and other national and international bodies for related programs and activities will contribute to the creation of a scientific center of excellence and innovation.

The purpose of this University UNESCO Chair is to contribute educationally and advisory-wise to the promotion of the development of sustainable urban creative cities, through the use of new technologies and services, innovative and climate-neutral ecosystems, in strengthening the creative industry and advanced digital skills, in promoting the preservation and highlighting of cultural heritage, the peri-urban environment and the revitalization of the city’s cultural life, as well as the protection of the cultural landscape and in raising public awareness regarding smart/digital sustainable, resilient and inclusive cities and settlements, as well as sustainable urban mobility.
